Raised on Lake Gaston in North Carolina, where his family owned a full-service marina, lodge and tackle store, Randy Howell started fishing at the age of three and has never looked back.
While working as a professional guide in his teens, Howell began winning tournaments regularly. At age 18, he qualified for the Red Man All-American tournament, at 19 he joined the Top 100 Tour (formerly Bass Elites), and at 23 he won his first FLW Tour event and was runner-up in the Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings. In 2004, he won the inaugural Bassmaster Elite 50.
Howell, based in Birmingham, AL, is now a 12-time Bassmaster Classic Qualifier, a full-time tournament fisherman and the national spokesperson for King’s Home, a Christ-centered home for youth, women, and children seeking refuge from abuse, neglect, abandonment, homelessness, and other difficult circumstances. Each year in November, he helps raise money for King’s Home by donating his Triton/Mercury tournament boat to the Kampfire for the King event in Chelsea, AL. Tickets for the event can be bought at KingsHome.com.
At the New England Fishing and Outdoor Expo, Howell will lead Bass University classes and seminars on top water and lipless cranks. Students will gain understanding of all the different crank styles and learn modifications for greater angling success.
